character information
name: Katsura Kotaro
canon: Gintama
canon point: After the Rakuyou Arc
age: "late twenties"

(canon) background: Katsura's Background @ the Gintama Wiki

abilities: Katsura's abilities are listed out in detail on the Gintama Wiki, but to give a concise rundown his significant talents and abilities include swordsmanship, knowledge and use of explosives and electronics, disguise skills, resourcefulness in combat, and speed, strength, and endurance notably higher than human norms.

strengths:
Intelligence: Katsura has always been something of a natural genius, to the point that he was able to secure a scholarship at prestigious school as a child despite being a homeless orphan. Now Katsura uses his talent to plan terrorist attacks in an attempt to overthrow the government. Regardless of how morally bankrupt his methods may be, they still show clear signs of intelligence. He's skilled at planning months-long infiltration missions, escaping from heavily guarded prisons, learning an incorporating new technologies into his plans, and coming up with solutions to mid-mission emergencies on the fly.

Determination: While it often slides into the realm of complete stubbornness, it's still fair to describe Katsura as simply 'determined' most of the time. He has the conviction and willpower to see even painful or difficult tasks through to the end. If the situation calls for it, he won't hesitate for a second to put his own life on the line for the sake of his goal.

Leadership: When Katsura took part in a war when he was younger, he served as a general. After the war ended, he became the head of a terrorist faction. In both circumstances he had the faith (if not always the understanding) of his followers and did his utmost to lead them well. Not only is Katsura a skilled strategist that values the lives of his comrades, he also knows the importance of securing provisions for his subordinates and recruiting more people to his cause. Despite the previously mentioned determination, he has the humility and compassion necessary to know when to give up on a hopeless fight or change his methods to less harsh ones.

weaknesses:
Illogical: Despite being clever and resourceful, Katsura is also sort of an idiot. He often jumps to absurd or flat out wrong conclusions, misses obvious hints, acts on bizarre trains of thought, or otherwise completely misreads a situation. Most significantly, there's very little grey area between Katsura's intelligent moments and dumb moments. He's either brilliant or moronic, and there have only been a handful of instances where his idiotic behavior has been revealed to be an act instead of the real thing.

His Name: Katsura is Katsura, and only Katsura. He's very sensitive about his name and dislikes being called by any nickname, though he does permit 'Zuru' in a very limited number of circumstances (despite it being used far more often outside those circumstances than not). Calling him by anything else will often have him correcting whoever says it regardless of the situation. For example, even when disguised and infiltrating an enemy organization, he immediately corrected the first person to call him by his pseudonym. In those situations he usually catches himself before he does it again, but it's not unheard of for him to nearly or totally blow his cover by being picky in an inopportune moment.

Sensitive: Katsura may be a wanted terrorist and war veteran, but he's still a bit of a baby about some things. He doesn't take well to being teased, flustered, or having his pride wounded, and while he can (pretend to) shrug off a few comments he tends to explode into angry, embarrassed yelling if the behavior persists. He also hates to lose and tends to act sullen and bratty when he does, if he admits to losing at all. On a less childish note, however, he has a weakness for animals and loves to play with their paws.

job skills (optional): Disguises, recruitment, befriending animals
housing (optional): Floor 9!

network sample: [ The video feed clicks on, the slightly wobbly camera focused on a very squiggly drawing of... whatever this thing is. Some sort of bipedal duck creature, perhaps.

After a moment someone - a man, probably - speaks.
]

Good evening, residents of Riverview Quarantine. I'm looking for someone.

[ A hand reaches from the bottom of the frame and taps on the picture. ]

This is my companion, Elizabeth. I haven't been able to locate him since arriving in this place and I'm concerned that his supply of sign boards may run out soon.

[ Finally, the camera is turned around to show a somber looking man with long black hair staring at the camera. ]

Please forward any relevant information to Katsura Kotarou... Ah, that's me, by the way. I can provide a handsome reward to anyone that can assist us in reuniting.

[ Katsura starts to set the camera down, but at the last second he lifts his back up. ]

Oh, by the way, I'm looking for normal Elizabeth - but if you happen to come by Monday Elizabeth, please let me know as well. We haven't seen each other in some time.

So it's started to snow, and people need to get out of the cold. That's perfectly fine. While some of the cabin residents are annoyed to have their private parties and romantic dinners interrupted, for most part they understand.

But one person in particular understand too well. Whoever has the misfortune of entering this particular cabin will find themselves faced with a rearranged living room, the dining room table moved so that it's directly across from the front door, and a certain somebody with long hair staring them down.

"Welcome to the Jouishishi Recruitment Drive." Katsura inclines his head just a touch as he offers the greeting, then points to the chair across from him. "Take a seat and we can get started." If whoever enters has questions, well, they're in luck: there are several pamphlets and flyers on the table, sporting a few key phrases like 'rewarding work', 'goal-oriented individuals', 'patriots', and 'overthrowing the government leadership'.

Naturally, most people would want to leave at this point - but Katsura has cleverly provided warmth, food, and entertainment (more specifically, Uno decks) for whoever might enter. Most tellingly, the handful of other others that had entered the cabin earlier now linger awkwardly as far away from Katsura and his table as they can, but haven't actually left yet.

It's pretty cold outside, after all.
